Welcome to the launch of Southwest Florida Sailing!

Welcome to the launch of Southwest Florida Sailing News and Information!   We encourage you to tell us how we’re doing by commenting on this blog page, or by email to our contact address.  Your suggestions for new content are always welcome.

This is our first summer in Naples with our boat, Grand Cru, a Bristol 35.5.  The local sailing community is growing and very supportive in providing information and assistance to fellow boat owners.  We’re members of the Gulf Coast Sailing Club which organizes racing and cruising events, as well as monthly meetings with guest speakers, and small boat sailing in Naples and Marco Island.  We recently joined other boats from GCSC in the July 4th boat parade at Marco Island.  Club members were quick to offer help with boat flags so that we were properly decked out for the parade.  Grand Cru is the boat in foreground below.

Summer in southwest Florida is a good time to tackle your list of overdue boat maintenance projects.  Inspection and repair of your boat’s sails should be high on that list.  The Florida sun is hard on sail fabric and an annual evaluation by an expert can help prolong their service life.  Kurt Martin at Sail Repair Fort Myers will inspect your sails with an experienced eye and tell you what needs to be done to enhance their lives, or if it’s time to begin looking for replacements.  He does repair work on site at very reasonable rates.  You’ll find his contact information on this website’s Services & Supplies tab under Information.

For those interested in a race from Ft. Myers to St. Petersburg and back over the Labor Day weekend, Gulf Coast Sailing Club and the St. Petersburg Yacht Club have teamed up to organize the event which will start on Friday noon, September 1st, off Ft. Myers Beach and conclude Monday noon, September 4th, with the finish of the return race to Ft. Myers.  Deadline for entries is August 17, 2017.  Saturday night dockage at SPYC and a BBQ at the clubhouse are included in the entry fee.  Complete details and entry forms can be found at SWFLSail.com.

  1. This design is incredible! You most certainly know how to keep a reader entertained. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Wonderful job. I really loved what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it. Too cool!

  2. Hello there! This is kind of off topic but I need some help from an established blog. Is it difficult to set up your own blog? I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty fast. I’m thinking about making my own but I’m not sure where to begin. Do you have any ideas or suggestions? With thanks

  3. I was curious if you ever thought of changing the page layout of your website? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or 2 images. Maybe you could space it out better?

  4. Hmm it appears like your site ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to the whole thing. Do you have any tips for newbie blog writers? I’d genuinely appreciate it.

    1. We’re new at this ourselves and still trying to provide content that is relevant. Suggest you look at other sites with blogs that you like and try to emulate them.

  5. When I initially commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get several e-mails with the same comment. Is there any way you can remove me from that service? Many thanks!

    1. We’ll try and find that box and uncheck it for you. We seem to be getting a lot of similar comments from your USP address. Do you have multiple users at the address?

  6. Hi! This is my first visit to your blog! We are a collection of volunteers and starting a new project in a community in the same niche. Your blog provided us useful information to work on. You have done a outstanding job!

  7. I’m curious which blogging and site-building platform you are running? I’m new to operating a blog and have been thinking about using the Ning platform. Do you consider this is a good foundation to start with? I would be extremely grateful if I could ask you some questions through email so I can learn a bit more before getting started. When you have some free time, please get in touch with me at: %EMAIL%. Thank you

  8. Does your site have a contact page? I’m having problems locating it but, I’d like to shoot you an e-mail. I’ve got some recommendations for your blog you might be interested in hearing. Either way, great blog and I look forward to seeing it develop over time.
