This is our first summer in Naples with our boat, Grand Cru, a Bristol 35.5. The local sailing community is growing and very supportive in providing information and assistance to fellow boat owners. We’re members of the Gulf Coast Sailing Club which organizes racing and cruising events, as well as monthly meetings with guest speakers, and small boat sailing in Naples and Marco Island. We recently joined other boats from GCSC in the July 4th boat parade at Marco Island. Club members were quick to offer help with boat flags so that we were properly decked out for the parade. Grand Cru is the boat in foreground below.
Summer in southwest Florida is a good time to tackle your list of overdue boat maintenance projects. Inspection and repair of your boat’s sails should be high on that list. The Florida sun is hard on sail fabric and an annual evaluation by an expert can help prolong their service life. Kurt Martin at Sail Repair Fort Myers will inspect your sails with an experienced eye and tell you what needs to be done to enhance their lives, or if it’s time to begin looking for replacements. He does repair work on site at very reasonable rates. You’ll find his contact information on this website’s Services & Supplies tab under Information.
